Humor Examples for Teen Curfew

I found three cartoons that were about curfews in general because none were that specific to the daytime curfews being imposed on Dallas teenagers. The first use of humor is in a cartoon that has bats hanging upside down and the text reads "And where have you been all day young lady? Your mother and I have been worried sick!" This is a play on words especially considering the fact that bats are nocturnal animals. I can't really tell however what position this cartoon artist was taking when they designed this picture.
The second humorous cartoon I found was a sketch that showed a police officer asking a teenager in baggy clothes and a baseball cap on "Shouldn't you be in Youth Detention Center?" It is hard to tell exactly what this author was trying to argue, but he was probably trying to say that the curfew criminalizes teenagers who are outside of class, even if they are not doing anything legally wrong.
The third and final example I found was not that funny, nor did I really understand the point of it. It was just a visual representation of the curfew. It kind of mocks the time frames that have been set forth for evening curfews, but it does not focus on daytime curfews.
Overall, it was hard to find examples of humor relating to my topic in any form. I think after looking for some more things besides cartoons I may gain a better understanding as to how this issue is comedic to some, or how to portray it as a humorous argument. I think that maybe because this topic is fairly serious and addresses the issue of truancy, it will be important to keep the target audience in mind when creating this piece of work.

My Rhetorical Case Study Subject and The Local Community

Mexico violence is very significant in the local community of Fort Worth, but also within the state of Texas. In Fort Worth, especially at Texas Christian University many students are planning on traveling to Mexico for their spring break trip. The issues of kidnapping and drug cartels have greatly been increasing and the media attention to these issues has also been on the rise. My topic greatly effects individuals choice's on whether or not they will travel south of the border for their vacation. Students or Spring Breakers are also the target of all arguments presented by experts and reporters on the issue because they know that they are the ones who will soon be visiting Mexico. It is especially important for students to be aware of what is going on because with the implications of spring break (excessive drinking and partying) many of them will make poor decisions regarding their safety whether or not the drug war violence is occurring. The probability of students however being effected by these events is minimal, but it could happen to any one.
Within Texas it is also important to note that we are immediate neighbors of Mexico and that most of the problems that are occurring are located on the Mexican border. There have already been several occurrences of bordering states such as Arizona and Texas who has experienced kidnapping and killings of those who are involved in the drug cartel action, as well as those who are innocent bystanders. In Texas we also have a lot of workers who travel here daily, crossing the border from Mexico to the United States. These workers could be a part of the drug cartels and they have have an easy pathway to gain access to the country.
Every American should be concerned with what is occurring in Mexico because if we did not have a market for illegal drugs within the United States we would take away the fuel of the fire.

My Space in the Community

To some, Palm Beach Tan may seem like a very superficial place and one that no one can relate to, but they are completely wrong. Palm Beach Tan is a vital part of the Texas Christian University community. During my observation I saw at least 10 girls enter the salon that I knew or had seen before. Another 12 had either TCU clothes on or a sorority shirt. I do think its weird that none of the girls who work there go to TCU, maybe it is because those who are going to college have higher ranking jobs in the community. For some though, some may view PBT as a nuisance or a waste of space in the community. I mean, really all it contributes is skin cancer and tan bodies.

The community that Palm Beach Tan is centered in also consists of local businesses. Restraunts such as Panera and IHOP, a nail salon and local boutiques for women. It is important to realize that the majority of those girls that do go to TCU who tan, go to Palm Beach. The community in Fort Worth is much less focused on "looks" as say Dallas would be, but it is still a very important part of our culture.
